END PART I: THE MARSH

BEGIN PART II: UGERS THRONE

Obtain and retreat.

It was a rather gloomy place, this area of the marsh, colossal plants blotted out the sun. a pale purple glow emanated from vines entangling the largest plants.

"See those orb shaped things, on the vines? their deaths eye." said Plain-Walker. "That glow? surrounding us? Its toxic, get three or four of the herbs and we'll be out of here, and we'll have to stay out of the cabin we keep 'em in unless we have to. its bad to be near the glow." Said Jue

_________

the trip back through the marshes was uneventful and Kove, though grim, was easy to pass through.

Thus they made it back to Gems hometown without any bloodshed.

"What in the world! is-is that my house? Its completely bur-burned up!"

Were Hyenas in the marsh.

" Anything out there, "Jue"? I'm worried the Demons might know what we're here for." Said Plain-Walker.

"Nothing but Marsh Wallabies*. But we have to go through Were Hyena** territory to get to our destination. That will be fun, i don't have a Were Hyena hide yet. I need it for my collection."

_____________

Jue's eyes gleamed in expectation, They had entered into Were Hyena territory, and Were Hyenas are not the sort to let humans pass into their land.

After a time the beasts showed themselves.

Their were seventeen, five were in human form, and had daggers.

They circled the ship, spread out.

The ones in human form began to climb the boat, and a couple were shot down. The three remaining cornered Plain-Walker, who felled one, but was easily cornered by the second two. They overpowered him, and would have finished him, had it not been for Jue.

She gracefully beheaded them both. As if she were borne wielding a blade, but it was not over, the other Hyenas showed their incredible agility, jumping from the ground to the deck, their spiny tails held up like weapons.

four jumped at her, she killed two. one of the other two whipped out with its tail, giving her a large gash, in response, she twirled about a killed it.

The rest went by in a blur, but at the end, three Were Hyenas retreated.

___________

They had been in the swamp three days when they reached their destination.

"Gem! come up! we've reached the core of the marsh!"

Nightmares.

So much destruction! So much evil! Why is it here? Thought Gem.

The battle with the Brain-Eater had drained her of much strength, and she had fainted where she stood not long after the monster spoke to her. It seems that her guides had returned, for she had awoke in a cabin of the boat.

Her last thought before going back to sleep were these. Why was i there when it happened?

_____________

Blood was everywhere. in every shop, every street, every house.

And everywhere there was the putrid smell of human corpses.

The lucky ones would be fed on, the less lucky would become Brain-Eaters, the ones doomed to be slowly destroyed, both their corpses, and their souls.

It loved that smell, it reminded it of the old days, when it ruled all. When it had conquered all.

When it could simply speak the word in its terrible tongue, and instantly have a soul brought before him.

It could taste them already.

Its hunger can not be explained, for it was a thing that had roots in the Uan Ills creation.

_______________

I will not speak of the Flesh-Eaters feast, for it is too terrible for the world to hear of.

If you must, let your imagination go at it.

______________

The Uan Ill had decided that it, and its army would follow the girl and her protectors, for it sensed danger in them.

"EE BALL FOLLOE TE FEUALEB I YALE!! TEY EILL ALL TRIOIN UB!!! EE BALL UARC AT BUNRIBE!!!!

The next day the Flesh-Eaters would surround the marsh.

Koves fall

The night was cold.

Unnaturally cold.

A sense of uneasiness was upon all who lived there, and it was going to become panic soon.

Because the Rotting dead were there.

Because the Flesh-Eaters were going to feast that night, already the Dream-Flayers who controlled them could feel the glee that the slaughter always gave them!

It also had glee.

It had more glee then any of the others.

It was Uan Ill, demon-lord of the Flesh-Eaters, King of the Dream-Flayers!

And there would be flesh to dine on tonight.

It spoke to its army then.

"deat to uuanb! Ee ball dine auuily tonict! Once Ove fallb, ee ball se very clobe to our full uoeer!

The growl-like cheers that replied echoed through the sewers.

NOE, CARCE!!

_______________

"Wake up Gem!"

Gem had been having a nightmare, likely caused by the uproar surrounding them, and thus was happy to be woken.

But she was far from happy with what she saw outside the boat.

All of Kove was alight, from fire and lamp light, which burned high like a giant bonfire, locals screamed and ran blindly, many ran straight into the rotting hordes.

"You must stay here Gem, we are going to fight." said Plain-walker.

________

It had been quite a while, and Gem had grown quite disgusted with watching, so she had went below deck, however, the screams were bothering her.

________

She had finally gotten used to the noise when she heard a creaking above. Could they have returned?

Sadly, they had not, instead she found a Flesh-Eater with a hole through its chest.

And it had seen her! It charged towards her, and she felt fear.

And then something took hold in her head, and her body seemed to move on its own, she found a Någå blade, and she cut off the arms and legs of the Monster.

Then the feeling left, and she was herself.

The Flesh eaters eyes became, somewhat, human, and it spoke to her. "Girl...Thanks.... watch yourself..... watch out for.... the.... the Uan Ill...... He... He has no.... mercy....He took..... Logar.... he eats his soul.....and....he.... stole his..... body......thanks for...saving.... kri...." Then the Flesh-Eater died.

Vermin in kove

"Buread te eord, tey are ere!"
"Tey are ere?"
"Tey are ere!"

These words were said by two rather... unfriendly, eyes. After which, one of those eyes went into the sewer where an ancient evil was waiting, and this is their conversation.

"Eat do you eanaet rat? i ave no tiue for caueb." Said the evil thing to the small eye, which caused the body owning the eye to cower, which caused the evil thing to laugh, and then, in its timid little voice, the eye spoke "Tey are ere uabter!"
At those words the evil things eyes lit up and the form of a decomposing one eyed rat and the form that we have seen in dreams and in gems home town appeared.

"EE BALL ILL TEU AND ALL OVE, RAT!! EE BALL FEABT ON TEIR FLEB!!!"

"AEAEN TE FLEB EATERB!!!"

_____________

"Hello Gem"
"Hi Plain-Walker"
"We heard you have need of a guide in the swamp, we can help, free of charge." said Plain-walker. "This is Jue, a swashbuckler!"
"Hi" said Jue.
"Hello" said Gem.
Jue had long blond hair, and had red eyes, she wore a dark blue shirt a white pants and she wore a någå sword*.
After a little bit Plain-Walker spoke "Care to see the boat?"
"Yes!" said Gem "I'd love to!"

*A någå sword has a curved blade built for cutting through flesh and bone, and a handle made of iron that has a guard for your knuckles.

The dock

Gem was confused. Why was the women called Gem? It didn't seem anything like a normal dream, so why would her name be mixed into it? And why was the man in it?
Maybe it WAS just a normal dream.

She went down to the tavern and payed for her stay. She would go straight to the docks and find a guide.

As she was walking down the rode towards the docks, she felt a shiver go down her spine, though it was a warm day.

She didn't notice the small eyes watching  from the alley.

So this is the dock of kove thought Gem. How interesting!
She wandered about for a little bit, taking in the peculiar appearance of the docks, it was shaped strangely, as if it were moving through a dance.
After a while she found a couple of people and headed towards them.
"Excuse me sir but you wouldn't- !"
She was face to face with the man who saved her from the monster.

The council (Continued)

"Oh great Uger! Oh lord Petlex! Oh holy Lhokoz! The Vile ones have brought down another town! Their numbers grow daily, and none of the Degkezques have stood before them, if we don't step in, the degkezques hsequefet shall fall! Oh great Uger! Oh lord Petlex! Oh holy Lhokoz! Simply allow me to join battle with the evil beasts, and i shall free those who are forced to serve, allow me to join battle and i shall crush the vile hordes!" Said the women who resembled gem.

The three whom she had spoken to spoke in unison. "Zit degkezques yegoa! Negex dequen quor zit degkezques gefsen oy ziten pegof negex!"

The women bowed and spoke again "Oh great Uger! Oh lord Petlex! Oh holy Lhokoz! Thank you!"

The silver skinned man spoke next "Lord, allow me to join Gem! i know of one amongst the humans who i feel would aid us in our quest!"

The Three spoke again "UG OF UGER-PETLEX-LHOKOZ FEQUEDET!"

Then the dream ended.

The council.

Gem had many normal dreams that night, one with a crazy old lady with hundreds of cats, one with a boy with a yellow mouse-thing trying to fight a weird cat on two feet with a coin on its forehead, and one with a boy with a thunder shape on his forehead with a stick fighting a giant snake. But after a while she had a dream as clear as the one that led to her travel to Kove, and this is what she saw:

She was a pair of invisible eyes looking down from the ceiling. The room was white, and seemed somehow insubstantial, there were people there, an adult whose appearance was much like hers, the man who saved her from the monster was there, but with silver skin, there were four animals, guarding their masters, who were not seen by Gem yet.
The first of the animals was a great lion, it had six wings, and six eyes, it was king of the lions, no writing could describe it fully.
The second was an Ox, its muscles bulged from it black body, and its horns would shame any other ox, it had six wings and five eyes.
The third was like a human, its hair was emerald, its body gold, and its beauty beyond anything mortal, it had six wings and seven eyes.
the fourth was an eagle, feathers of wonderful bronze, eyes of bold blue, it had six wings ready for flight, and it had twenty eyes.

she then saw the three.

The left one was a pure white dove of giant size, and it filled her with love and happiness.
The middle one was huge, dwarfing the dove to the size of a mortal dove, and his appearance is impossible to explain by humans, save that he fills one with fear.
The one on the right was terrible in wonder, he was like a man, but not, he wore a great white robe, and golden chest armor, he had long, white hair, and a fine beard. his eyes were like fire, and gem would have fainted if she had a body to faint with.

Then they began to speak.

Kings jester.

Fifteen days after the encounter with the monster, Gem and her guide made it to Kove.

"Here we are. good luck." The man said, and without a second glance he walked towards Kove.
Gem quickly lost him, and he was gone for a time before she made it to the gates. The gate was open and she got in without any trouble, However, Gem had not thought of the fact that she didn't know where the docks were until now, and it was getting late.
I suppose i might as well find an inn... she thought, and so she started looking around.

___________

after looking for an inn for a time, she found one called kings jester.
I suppose it will do. she decided, and went in.

The inn was crowded with happy drunks, but gem was able to find the innkeeper rather quickly.
"Hello sir, are you master of this inn?" Gem asked him. He responded with a nod and a grin. "What do ya need, little lady? A drink? perhaps a room for the night?" he asked.
"Just a room, please."
"I'm sure a little girl like you doesn't want ta be hangin' around my customers, i'll get you a room in a spark!" he said. "Just you wait here."

she waited a few minutes, and then the innkeeper reappeared. "Follow me, Little lady, your rooms ready."

______

That night, she had a strange dream, a very clear dream, she saw it as if awake.

Vermin and doves.

I wonder what the marshes are like thought Gem. They couldn't be anything like the valleys, to wet... i wonder if the marshes are anything like the sea? I suppose i'll just have to find out...

She had been walking a good time now, and was well away from the town, and she was getting bored of it.

Perhaps i should rest now. She thought, and sat down with a sigh. She hadn't thought to bring shelter with her.

I'll just sleep a little and then get going again. She decided.

________________________

She went on like this for several days without any trouble.

Then she got trouble.

As she was walking she heard a yell a little ways ahead, and ahead she saw a strange beast,
Its head was like a rat, cat fur covered its torso, it had leathery wings, its lower body was like a lion with a horse tail.

To Gems horror it came towards her and spoke with a hoarse voice in a strange tongue.
"Eat ib tib? A little cirl ab coue to ulay? GRAAAWK!"
It opened wide its wings as if in embrace, walking forward till it was towering above her.

She would have disappeared into those batwings, had it not been for the stranger.

The thing began to slowly close its wings around her, when he appeared, as if from thin air, brandishing a long sword, he rushed at the thing and struck it three times, and it turned to ash without ever seeing its killer.
Gem looked at her savior, He had silver hair and golden eyes.
"Don't want some child getting caught in a demon trap now." said the man. "You going somewhere?" he asked. "Yes, to a place called kove, may i ask who you are?" answered gem.
"Call me Plain-Walker" he said.
For a while they both stared at each other, as if they were unsure of what to think of the other, till Plain-Walker spoke up "Perhaps you'd like a guide to kove?"
Gem, after a little bit of thought accepted.

A duel for magecraft.

Birch was busy sorting herbs when the attack began, and was as confused as everyone else when he heard the screams of the first victims, but he would know soon enough.

He went out to see what was happening, what he saw brought horror, disgust, and momentary fear...
It also brought seething anger.
He went back inside to bring back memories from his days of youth, before going back out.

______________________

He joined battle with a burst of flames, turning five of the monsters to ash. he then summoned holy light and struck out at several Brain-Eaters, who collapsed, the Dream-Flayers within purged.
He continued on like this for a time, until he noticed one of the Brain-Eaters, he at first didn't know what made him notice it, with all the other Brain-Eaters around, but then he realized why it stood out from the others.
It looked just like how Gem had described the man from her dream named Logar after he became a monster.
He also knew it was no normal Brain-Eater.
He hid himself till the Thing was nearly alone, and then he let it see him. It noticed him nearly at once, and Birch knew that the thing hated him.
Then it charged at him, as expected, and Birch stood still, waiting for the right moment, at the last second he moved, throwing the evil thing off guard. "Uaralioe" he muttered, and instantly the evil thing stopped moving, powerless against the magic.

Then Birch summoned his greatest magic, holy flame and started towards the creature.
He would stop it before it could gain full power.
Then he was attacked from behind. And he knew he would die.
unless he did something quick.
He spoke words of magic that would make it seem as if he were dead. "fae ui deat, bale ten uae noe uore uy btrife"

And then he was unconscious.

A duel for undeath.

"ureuare for te carce." said the thing of evil, in the language of the ancients, it was preparing to drink the blood of innocents tonight, and it could not contain its glee. "Ee ball feab on boulb and te slood of innocentb boon!" It said as it unsheathed it claws. The Brain-Eaters were restless, and the thing was happy to let them join the slaughter. Many of them were from the town he attained his shell in, but some were from this town's graveyard, all held the same mindless lust.
It pointed at the buildings surrounding them and shrieked with glee, a battle cry of sorts.
Then the Brain-Eaters charged.

It was a little while before the people realized what had happened, but once they did, there was chaos, humans running everywhere in fear, wonderful fear!

As it joined the blood-spilling it went into a trance, time slowed around it, and he wandered everywhere, bringing death to all it saw.

Then the old man appeared.
As it saw him, it went out of the trance, and fury took its place. What was a wizard doing there?
The thing charged the old man but the man dodged it at the last second, sending the thing off balance, the man muttered a few words and the thing became powerless, it couldn't move.

The man then conjured a flame of terrible divinity, and the thing was afraid.
But it was lucky, as the man was about to touch it, a Brain-Eater with a hole in its chest attacked the man, and killed him, and it could move again.
Then it turned its attention back to the humans. They would all die before the night was done.

The start of an adventure.

"The marshes? Aren't they far?" Asked Gem.
"Yes, but that dream could be important, and if it is we'll need it to know what is important about it." Replied Birch. "Here, Gem! This map shows the way to a port town near the edge of the swamp called Kove. You should be able to find a guide there."
"Thanks Birch!" Gem said, and she took the map.

Thus began a journey far greater then she could have guessed.

___________________________

That night, after she left, a thing of evil came out of the alley of the town, surrounded by invisible creatures of unspeakable evil...
The Dream-Flayers.
The thing had come a week ago, not long after it had gained a shell for the spirit-thing that was all that remained of the ancient thing of evil.
Now it was ready for building up its army once more.
In shorter words, it was ready to kill.

The alchemist shop (continued)

As she finished telling the dream, Birch's frown deepened.
"It was very clear?"
"Yes Birch, clear as seeing it through my own eyes."
The alchemist then set about collecting strange plants and herbs from the shelves, thinking.
"Do you have an idea about what the dream was? Was it just a dream?"
Birch replied without looking at her. "This dream is troubling... Hmmmm.... If i am to be sure of what i suspect of your dream is true, I will need an herb called Deaths Eye. It is very poisonous, but is the key ingredient for a potion that awakens the meaning of dreams."
"Where is the plant?"
"In the south, or more specifically, the marshes of koneshia."

(To be continued...)

The alchemist shop

Although she had just woke up, she felt wide awake, as if she hadn't slept.
The room she was in was small, with a few books stacked in a corner, and a plain bed that took up most of the room, there was also a chest where she kept her clothes, and there was little space to move besides the entrance.
She quickly got dressed and went to the kitchen to get some food, she was in a hurry to tell Birch about the dream.
Soon she was out of the house and running through the town, intent on getting to the alchemist shop.
___________________________________

as she came up to the shop, the familiar smell of herbs, and other interesting things filled her nostrils. She went inside.
The shop was filled with pots and herbs and vials, and was a very odd place in the minds of most townsfolk, not to mention the owner, who, when not brewing up a potion or gathering herbs, awakened visions(Or so he said) and people tend not to trust people who they think are crazy.
But the girl was fascinated by the shop and its master, and had grown a friendship with him.
"Birch!" she yelled "I need to tell you something"
A man who looked like he was somewhere in his middle ages came out from a back room.
"Hello Gem!" said Birch "A good day for collecting Dwarven green bush, don't you think?"
"........"
"Never mind, you wanted to tell me something?"
"Yes!" replied Gem "I had a strange dream, it was very clear, and there were a lot of horrible rotting monsters!"
At this Birch looked at Gem with shock.
"Gem.... Tell me exactly what you saw."

A clear nightmare

As the thing that had been Logar looked at him, Krik wanted to scream.
The thing looked different from the other Bran-Eaters, its face was nearly the same as before, despite a few chunks out of its flesh, but the eyes had been enveloped in a blue flame.
Its hands were enveloped in the same blue flame as its eyes, and it seemed to have grown a bit.
"MONSTER!" shrieked Krik, then he stabbed it.
No blood came from it.
The thing laughed at the look of horror on Kriks face, it would enjoy killing the human.
It burned through Kriks chest, to his heart, and tore it out.

Then the girl woke up.

Sunday, August 9, 2009

The carnage. (continued)

"How...."
"I don't know how Krik, but i'm going to stop them!" said Logar
"Thats crazy, we're hiding in the corner of the back room of a abandoned house while our town is being ripped to shreds and turned into a graveyard!"
"Fine then you wimp, I'll take them myself!"

And with that he left.

"Wait, Logar!" said Krik, who had decided it would be best to help Logar.

Unfortunately, when he went out he found Logar, who had already foolishly charged into battle. Only to be gruesomely killed in a matter of seconds. After that the Brain-eaters left him alone.
"Logar!" yelled Krik as he ran to the body of his friend. sadly For Krik, the Dream-flayers were only moments behind him.

As Krik watched in terror, Logar's broken body got up and found Krik.

Monstrous menagerie: Brain-Eaters

The Brain-Eater is an Undead slave of the ______.
The Brain-Eater serves as the most common monster in _____'s army, used as foot-soldiers. However, a Brain-eaters true purpose is hosting the spirits known as Dream-Flayers.

Appearance:

The appearance of a Brain-eater is that of a rotting body, normally human, although any species can be used.

_______ is a placeholder name that will be used for the big bad till a proper name is found.

The carnage.

"Did you hear that Logar?" "It sounds like screaming!"
"Sure did."
And sure enough, in a few seconds mores screams joined in.
"Oh no" spoke Krik "Its coming from town!"
"We better go check it out!" said Logar.

What they found brought out utter terror.

Their little town, which once was a peaceful trade town was now covered in carnage.
The monsters that were rumored to have been near the border of the region had attacked.

It was a terrible sight, The brain-Eaters were killing everywhere. Everyone that came into their path was murdered in the evil frenzy of the Brain-Eaters.
Blood and gore spewed out of a body near where Logar and Krik were hiding, immobilized in terror.

And as they watched the spirit-things known as Dream-flayers found their way inside the corpses, who then got up and joined the fray.

Sunday, July 26, 2009

The bicker.

"Rain." said Logar "I'm sick of rain, day and night, night and day."
"Get used to it."
"Why should i?"
"Cuz' as long as the monsters roam the land there's gonna be rain." said Krik.
"Humph"
"Just help carry the Boar."

An introduction of sorts.

Thou may know of death as a threshold. A walkway to the heavens or the pits of the underworld. Thou perhaps may see it as thy freedom, thy freedom from pain and sorrow.

But beware! There art those who would taketh away thy great freedom. Beware! Beware the brain-eaters! Beware the ones who would encase thy soul in the rotting cursed, the fuel for the dream-flayers!

Beware!
